This pioneering process, identified as the rotary kiln volatilization method, begins with the meticulous blending of zinc oxide ore with precise amounts of expertly chosen coke powder or smokeless crushed coal. This perfectly synchronized mixture is adeptly introduced into the rotary kiln via the kiln tail discharge pipe. As the kiln gracefully rotates, the materials progress seamlessly. A dynamic forced blast creates an intense high-temperature reaction zone within the kiln, reaching jaw-dropping temperatures of 1000-1200ºC. Such intense heat drives the reduction of zinc metal compounds using a carbon reducing agent, converting them into zinc metal vapor, which transitions into a gaseous state. Here, the zinc vapor meets oxygen, transforming into zinc oxide dust, which is skillfully collected by the dust collection system along with the flue gas. This process results in the creation of a low-grade zinc oxide product. Additionally, zinc-rich metals such as lead and indium undergo reduction and oxidation, enriching the final product, while other precious metals like copper, gold, and silver remain elegantly within the kiln slag.
