This groundbreaking approach, known as the rotary kiln volatilization method, begins with the meticulous blending of zinc oxide ore with precision-measured coke powder or smokeless crushed coal. This expertly balanced mixture is smoothly introduced into the rotary kiln via the kiln tail discharge pipe. As the kiln rotates with precision, the materials glide effortlessly forward. A powerful forced airflow creates a high-temperature reaction zone within the kiln, reaching an impressive 1000-1200ºC. This intense heat enables the reduction of zinc metal compounds using a carbon reducing agent, transforming them into zinc metal vapor in a gaseous state. Once in this form, the zinc vapor meets oxygen and transforms into zinc oxide dust, which is expertly collected by an advanced dust collection system along with flue gas, yielding a low-grade zinc oxide product. In addition, zinc-rich metals such as lead and indium undergo processes of reduction and oxidation, enhancing the final product, while other precious metals like copper, gold, and silver remain elegantly embedded within the kiln slag.
