2.Process line inroduction
The metallic magnesium production line is a specific rotary kiln developed based on the calcining characteristics of dolomite and the process requirements of the Pidgeon method for magnesium smelting. It is the key equipment of the dolomite calcining system. The products produced by the rotary kiln has stable and uniform quality, high activity and low ignition loss, fully meets the process requirements of Pidgeon method for magnesium smelting, making the magnesium extraction rate and silicon utilization rate relatively high, reducing the production and consumption of metal magnesium. It is an ideal equipment for calcining dolomite in the magnesium industry.
The process of magnesium smelting includes raw material storage, dolomite calcination, grinding and briquetting, reduction and refining. The raw material (dolomite) is crushed into qualified materials (20-40mm) by the crusher, sintered in a rotary kiln, cooled by a cooler, ground into powder by a ball mill, and pressed into balls by a ball press. The dolomite is in the rotary kiln or vertical kiln Calcined into calcined white, crushed and evenly mixed with ferrosilicon powder and fluorite powder to form a dough, put into a heat-resistant stainless steel reduction tank, placed in a reduction furnace, reduced to 1200-1250°C and a vacuum of 1.33Pa. Take crude magnesium and undergo flux refining, ingot casting and surface treatment to obtain finished magnesium ingots.
3.Brief Introduction to Pidgeon magnesium smelting method
Pidgeon magnesium smelting method is widely used in China for dolomite to magnesium production and has been very mature. Here we will provide more details of the process and procedures.
The Pidgeon process is mainly include: dolomite ore that meets the requirements, crushing it into 20-40mm stones by a crusher, calcining it into forged white in a rotary kiln, grinding and then mixing it with ferrosilicon powder (containing 75% silicon) and fluorite powder (containing 95% CaF2), sending it to a briquette machine to make balls (ball making pressure 9.8-29.4MPa), and then sending it to a heat-resistant steel reduction pot, and reducing it in a reduction furnace at a temperature of about 1250ºC and under vacuum. The magnesium is reduced to vapor and condensed into crystalline crude magnesium. After solvent refining, ingot casting and surface treatment, a magnesium metal ingot is obtained.
